The bracket design puts a flat "L" under the shelf, and once the shelf is in place it keeps the pin firmly seated in the cabinet hole. That all but eliminates the chance of tear-out.

The "L" is 1/2" wide and reaches a full 3/4" into the cabinet, so the shelf has a solid seat to rest on.

Fits 1/4" holes.
